My three-year-old 300MHz PC has been incredibly slow on the internet recently. I suspected the memory might be the problem and I received the following error message when I ran my Norton Zip recovery disk. 'Microsoft RAMDrive v.3.06 virtual disc d: RAMDrive: extended memory manager not present' and 'Warning! the high memory area (HMA) is not available. Additional low memory (below 640K) will be used instead'. What can I do?

Memory either works or it doesn't - the usual symptom of failing RAM is random system crashes. The messages you saw are related to the setting up of a RAM drive (a pseudo disk drive created in memory), which Norton does for some reason connected to the way its recovery software works. Do not worry about them.
Slow internet performance could be caused by a number of factors, including an overloaded ISP or noise on your telephone. It's also likely that if your three-year-old modem has never had a firmware upgrade it may not be fully compatible with your ISP's equipment and therefore is not able to connect at the highest possible speed.
